Overview
Drip allows you to control when students gain access to specific sections of your course curriculum. You can choose to release each section:
On a specific calendar date, or
A set number of days after a student enrolls
Until a section is released ("dripped"), students won’t be able to view its content. This helps you pace learning, reduce overwhelm, or align content with a schedule.
Drip by date
To set up a Drip schedule by a specific date:
Select a specific Course from your list of course products.
Inside the individual course, click Curriculum in the submenu.
Locate the section(s) to be released on a specific date. Click Drip at the top of the section.
From the panel, use the Drip Options dropdown menu to select Specific date.
Under Drip Options, use the dropdown calendar to Choose a date. Note that this date must be at least 48 hours ahead of the current date.
Click Save when complete.
Drip by days after enrollment
When setting up a drip schedule by days after enrollment, the drip content is released to students based on the date they first enrolled in your course.
To set up a Drip schedule by days after enrollment:
Select a specific Course from your list of course products.
Inside the individual course, click Curriculum in the submenu.
Locate the section(s) to be released on a certain number of days after enrollment and click Drip at the top of the section.
From the panel, use the Drip Options dropdown menu to select Days after enrollment.
Under Drip Options, type in the Number of days after the student enrolls.
Click Save when complete.
Set up email announcements
School owners have the option to set up automatic email notifications that students will receive 15 hours after drip content is released. Drip email announcements must be set and activated at least 48 hours before the intended drip date.
To activate email announcements:
From the Drip panel in Curriculum, navigate to Notify your students and click Compose.
A popup will appear where you can add your Email Subject line and your Email Body text. The email subject must be filled out to send drip notifications.
Once your email is finished drafting, click Save.
View email metrics
Email metrics like Received, Opened, Clicked, and Bounced are available directly within the Drip panel after saving.
Student experience
If a section hasn’t been released yet due to its drip schedule, students won’t be able to access it. Instead, they’ll see a message indicating when the section will become available.
Until then:
The section will appear locked.
Students won’t be able to view any of its lessons or content.
Once the scheduled release occurs, the section will automatically unlock, and students will gain immediate access to all lessons within it.
Grant students full access
If you'd like to give a student — or all enrolled students — access to all course content before the scheduled drip release, you can grant them full access at any time.
Once full access is granted:
The student will immediately be able to view all course content, regardless of the drip schedule.
They will no longer receive drip email announcements, since they already have access to all materials.
Granting full access to an individual student
From the Users area of your admin, select the specific student enrolled in your course.
Click Enrollments from the admin sidebar and scroll down to the Enrollments section.
Click on the Actions button (three dots) next to the course that you want to give the student immediate access to.
Select Grant Full Access from the drop-down menu.
Granting full access to all students
To grant full access to a course to all currently enrolled students:
Navigate to the Information > Course Settings tab of the course.
Under Drip settings, click Grant full access.
A pop-up will ask you to confirm this action. Click Grant full access again.
Restore drip schedule
If you’ve previously granted a student full access to a course and want to reinstate the original drip schedule, you can do so by restoring their drip schedule.
When you restore the drip schedule:
The student will lose immediate access to all course content.
They will be re-enrolled into the original drip schedule based on their initial enrollment date.
Drip email announcements will resume as scheduled.
To restore drip:
Navigate to the Information > Course Settings tab of the course.
Under Drip settings, click Restore drip schedule.
Turn off drip
You can disable drip for any section at any time. When drip is turned off:
The section’s content becomes immediately available to all enrolled students.
Drip email notifications for that section will no longer be sent.
This is useful if you decide to release content all at once instead of on a schedule.
