How to export school content and data

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Teachable is a standalone course creation site—your Teachable course is stored online in a unique format that can’t be opened or read by any other software. Therefore, we don't currently have a native feature that allows you to export a course as a single unit out of Teachable.

Instead, the most common practice is to directly download individual pieces of content. Once downloaded, these files can be kept as a local backup on your device or you can upload them to a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive.

How to download text and media

Video

To download video files, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the video block in your curriculum editor and select Download.

Image files in text blocks

For image files in text blocks, right click on the image, and select "Open Image in New Tab". Then right click on the image and select Save Image As.

Banner images

For banner images, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the image block in your curriculum editor and select Download.

Text

For text within your course, copy and paste it into an external word processor, such as Microsoft Word, Pages, or Google Docs, and save it as a new file there.

PDFs

For PDF documents, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the video block in your curriculum editor and select Download.

Resources

For Resources, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the video block in your curriculum editor and select Download.

Audio

For Audio, click on the three dots at the top right corner of the video block in your curriculum editor and select Download.

How to duplicate your course

If you are only wanting to keep a copy of your original course (for example, if you’re looking to make some changes and you’re not sure if you’ll want to reverse them later on)—you can simply duplicate your course so that another copy is stored in Teachable. You can keep the duplicate unpublished if you don’t want it to be visible in your course directory.

How to export data

You can export specific data from your school, though there isn't a single "export everything" option. Here's what you can export:

  • User Data: School owners can export user information to a CSV file that gets sent to your email. Go to your Users section, apply any filters you want, then click "Export CSV" in the top-right corner.

  • Transaction Data: You can export all your sales transactions as a CSV. Navigate to the Transactions section and click "Export CSV" in the upper right corner - the file will be emailed to you.
