What is Teachable Payments?
Teachable Payments is Teachable's updated payments gateway, replacing the legacy system with an improved suite of new sales tools, expanded payment methods, better checkout, improved student subscription handling, and more robust tax handling.
It's built on Stripe's infrastructure and designed to do more than just process a transaction — it handles your payouts, tax, fraud protection, and student checkout experience all in one place.
The bottom line: better system, more money in your pocket, faster.
What's new
A checkout that converts
The new Stripe-Powered Student Checkout is a two-step, Stripe-hosted checkout experience — the same infrastructure used by millions of businesses worldwide. It's faster, cleaner, and built to convert.
What's new at checkout:
Expanded checkout customization — product descriptions, custom branding and colors, configurable fields, 10 checkout upsells, mobile optimization
37+ local payment methods — Klarna, Afterpay, iDEAL, Bancontact, and more, depending on your students' location
Adaptive Pricing — currency is now handled via Adaptive Pricing. At checkout, students will see prices in their local currency automatically, with exchange rate applied
Auto translation — 34 languages covered during checkout
Lower processing costs
Local processing fees — processing fees are determined based on the location of your Teachable Payments account, meaning you no longer absorb unexpected cross border or int'l transaction fees
No FX fees — transactions are now priced in the settlement currency of your Teachable Payments account, with currency conversion fees passed to the buyer when applicable
Transparent, complete payouts
Gone are the days of guessing when you'll receive your money, and how much. With Teachable Payments, you're paid in full to your Teachable Payments account at the time of sale, and you have direct visibility into where the funds are at any given moment.

FAQs
When will I move to this system?
All existing teachable:pay users will be migrated to this new system in waves throughout Q3. You will be notified ahead of migration, with clear instructions should any steps be required of you.
Will my students notice the change?
Yes — they'll see a new checkout experience. It's faster and more polished than before, and it supports more payment methods. Additionally, they will see their new Customer Portal for managing recurring payments. Most students will have a better experience.
I'm on the Monthly Payment Gateway. What happens to me?
Your existing sales and payouts will continue on the Monthly Payment Gateway. If Teachable Payments is available in your country, we recommend you consider moving to Teachable Payments. Once your school migrates, all new transactions will go through the new gateway.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Teachable Payments is built on Stripe, one of the most trusted payments infrastructures in the world. All transactions are encrypted and protected by Stripe fraud services.
I'm in a country that is not supported. Can I use Teachable Payments?

What happened to BackOffice?
BackOffice has been retired. Its core features are now part of Teachable Payments, depending on your bundle. See Understand Teachable Payment's fees and bundles for more.
