To cover rising processing fees and handling costs, we will be updating our fees for Back Office, transaction fees, and the Custom Payment Gateway.
These fees are applied in accordance with your payment gateway, student location and payment type, and Back Office enablement at the time of a student’s purchase.
Back Office Fee Updates
Starting June 5, 2023, schools on Teachable with a Gross Merchandise Value (“GMV”) of $500,000 or more will be charged a 2% per-transaction fee. Schools with a GMV of less than $500,000 will be charged a per-transaction fee of 2.8%.

Back Office offers the following benefits:
- Calculation, collection, and remittance of taxes to the relevant tax authorities automatically, where applicable.
- Automatic payouts to anyone who collaborates on your products or services (authors and affiliates).
- PayPal as a payment option at checkout.
- In June 2023, we’re also adding Buy Now, Pay Later exclusively for BackOffice users.
Processing Fee Updates
Starting July 25, 2023, processing fees will change for all payment gateways.

NOTE: Processing fees are determined by the payment processor (Stripe or PayPal) and are based on the location and transaction type (card or PayPal account) used by the student at time of purchase.
Custom Payment Gateway Fee Changes (US-Based Schools Only)
Starting July 25, 2023, schools on a Custom Payment Gateway will see a change to our fee structure. These changes impact US-based schools only.

ABOUT THIS UPDATE: These fees are similar to other companies that offer custom payment gateway integrations. We will continue to do our best to keep fees low by giving creators access to teachable:pay, our in-platform e-commerce tool (which includes added benefits such as fraud protection, tax handling and remittance), and Apple Pay and Google Pay payment options.
