Adding a Blog

This article is about setting up your school’s blog before you make your first blog post.

Enabling Your Blog

Before anything, you must first enable your blog in your school's general settings. This will activate your blog at [yourschoolname].teachable.com/blog.

  1. Logged in to your Teachable school, go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the blog section and click Enable Blog.

    enable blog

  3. A Blog enabled notification will appear in the lower right-hand corner, letting you know that the blog is now active and ready to customize.

Customizing Blog Information

Your blog name, subtitle (or tagline), and about section are currently generic. Let’s change that.

  1. Log in to your Teachable school.
  2. Click Settings in your admin sidebar.
  3. Select General from the submenu.
  4. Scroll down to the Blog section, or click it in the navigation bar.

  8. Fill out the New Link form and then click Add Link.

    add new link to header

    • Location: This where the link to your blog will appear on your site. Most likely you will leave it Header.
    • Text: The link text that leads to your blog. (The word “Blog” will work; no need to get fancy.)
    • URL: Paste your blog URL that you copied in step 5.
    • Open in New Tab: Toggle this switch to the on position if you want your blog to open in a new browser tab.
    • Visible To: Most likely you will leave this set to All. You can also limit who sees the link to your blog by whether they are logged in or logged out.
  9. To preview the navigation bar of your school to ensure that the blog link was added correctly, click on the name of your school in the top left corner. You should see a link to your blog in your navigation bar. admin-site-navigation-preview-blog-link-open-blog.gif

Using Your Blog’s RSS Feed

Your blog will also have its own RSS feed. To see what your blog posts look like in an RSS reader, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your favorite RSS reader and log in. In this example, we’re using Feedly.com.
  2. Copy and paste your Teachable school’s URL into the search bar. If it doesn’t show up when you search, append /blog/rss to the end of your URL. <p">feedly url
  3. The feed should then look something like this:

    feedly rss feed
