Cookies on Checkout Pages

This article explains Teachable's use of cookies on checkout pages and how students are informed and empowered to manage their browsing experience.

Overview

Starting in December 2024, Teachable will introduce a cookie consent banner on student checkout pages. This banner will inform logged-out users cookies are used as part of their browsing experience and provide options to accept or decline non-essential cookies.

Key points

  • This feature ensures compliance with applicable privacy laws
  • It is not currently possible to remove or customize the banner
  • The banner is only shown to users without an existing account, as returning students have already agreed to Teachable's Cookie policies
  • If you leverage third-party analytics tools, you may receive less data from users on the checkout page

What are cookies?

Cookies are files and records of data stored on a user’s device that enable websites to remember certain information, track activity, or personalize content. Some cookies are essential for website functionality, while others enhance the user experience, provide performance data, support analytics and/or advertising tools.

For more information about how Teachable uses cookies, please view our Privacy policy and
Cookie policy.

Essential cookies

Essential cookies are required to ensure the technical functionality of the website and to provide/deliver services explicitly requested by users. These cookies enable:

  • Website security and performance.
  • Sales commission attribution to affiliates.
  • User interaction understanding through the analysis of anonymized information.
  • Recording of specific user choices to enable core website functions.

Advertising cookies

Advertising cookies are non-essential cookies used to tailor the website experience to individual user preferences, improving experience and enhancing the effectiveness of advertisements. These cookies may include third-party cookies that track user interests and behavior, to serve targeted advertisements for products and services of the user’s interests on other websites.

Student experience

When a logged-out user who has not previously set his/her/their cookie preferences visits a checkout page, a cookie consent banner will be displayed:

 Consent banner options:

  • "Accept": Both essential and advertising cookies will be enabled.
  • "Decline": Only essential cookies will be enabled.

Students may also review detailed information regarding cookie categories by consulting Teachable's Privacy policy and Cookie policy before making their selection.

Impact to tracking and analytics

If a user declines advertising cookies, third-party services such as analytics applications and advertising platforms will have access only to the collected limited data. As a result, users’ activity will not be fully tracked during the checkout experience and analytics events and/or engagement metrics for these sessions may not be available.

This approach balances user choice with compliance requirements, ensuring transparency and respect for privacy preferences.
