What is a Product Detail Page (PDP)?
A Product Detail Page (PDP) is a quick, no-code, no-design, SEO-optimized sales page that allows you to start selling your Teachable products immediately. Unlike traditional sales pages that require manual setup, the PDP is generated instantly using your product details.
How to Enable a Product Detail Page
Product Detail Pages are currently only available for Courses but will be released for all product types soon!
-
For Courses Go to Setup Guide: Navigate to your course setup guide.
-
Scroll to the "Set Up Your Purchase Journey" section: This section now includes a dropdown that asks “Where would you like to sell your course?”, where there’s an option for "Product Detail Page."
- Choose "Product Detail Page" from the dropdown: If you previously used a Teachable sales page or an external website, you can switch to the PDP here. This means that the PDP will now be the primary page that opens when a user clicks a product in All Products.
-
Preview, Copy Link, or Edit:
- Edit: Customize details such as title, description, thumbnail, and pricing.
- Preview: See how the page will appear to potential buyers.
- Copy Link: Share the PDP URL anywhere you would typically share your sales page.
Customization Options
- Course Information: Title, description, and thumbnail are auto-populated from your course settings. Any edits made here will apply across Teachable.
- Pricing Plans: By default, all current and future pricing plans are shown. You can also select specific plans manually.
- Course Curriculum Preview: Toggle this on to showcase course content to potential buyers.
- Rich Text Area: Add additional marketing content, limited-time offers, or custom messaging.
- Search Engine Discoverability: Enable this to make your product discoverable on Google. When enabled, courses using the PDP will appear in Google search results under a "course" category, increasing visibility.
Where to Find Your Product Detail Page
-
Within the Setup Guide (as outlined above)
-
Sales Pages Section in the Navigation Menu: Allows you to preview, edit, or copy the PDP URL.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How is the Product Detail Page different from a traditional sales page?
Unlike traditional sales pages, PDPs are automatically generated based on your course details, eliminating the need for design or manual setup. You can still use traditional sales pages if you prefer more customization.
Why does my Product Detail Page say it’s closed for enrollment?
If you do not have an active pricing plan added to your product detail page potential students will receive a message saying this product is closed for enrollment. Additionally, if your product is unpublished, it will also say "Closed for enrollment."
How do I disable a Product Detail Page?
While Product Detail Pages are automatically generated and cannot be deleted, you can decide whether you would like this page to be customer facing. To set traditional sales pages or an external URL as the default (or primary) journey for your buyers, navigate to the "Setup guide" on any given course, and follow the steps outlined in the "Set Up Your Purchase Journey" section.
Can I customize the design of my Product Detail Page?
No, the PDP follows a standardized layout for a seamless experience. However, you can edit text, add additional information, and control which pricing plans are displayed. If you would like to add any custom content just toggle on the rich text field and add via that block.
The PDP will also inherit your font and color theme selections used throughout Teachable!
What happens if I edit my course title, description, or thumbnail?
Any edits made on the PDP will update across Teachable, including your main course listing and other related areas.
Can I use the Product Detail Page and a traditional sales page simultaneously?
Yes! You can still create and use traditional sales pages while also having a PDP. You can choose which one to use when sharing links. However, you can only choose one primary page that will be linked from your All Products page; this can be selected with the dropdown on the Course Setup page.
Will my Product Detail Page show up on Google?
If you enable search engine discoverability, your PDP will appear in Google search results as a course listing, improving visibility and discoverability. Changes to this setting will require time before seeing the adjustments within search engines. This time can vary and we do not have any clarity on how long it will be before the search engines crawl again to see the updated selection.
Image shows course listings will show within Google results within a separate carousel in addition.
What happens if I add a new pricing plan later?
By default, all current and future pricing plans are shown. If you manually select pricing plans instead, new plans will not be automatically included.
How do I share my Product Detail Page?
You can copy the PDP URL from the Setup Guide or Sales Pages section and share it anywhere, just like you would with a traditional sales page.
How can I generate the PDP URL with a coupon?
If PDP is set as the primary sales page, it is possible to generate the URL with Coupon in the Coupon page by clicking on the preview icon. If the PDP is not set as primary, you can always add a coupon parameter to the URL manually. Learn more about coupon params here.
How do I publish my Product Detail Page?
Product Detail Pages are always active and ready to use! You do not need to "publish" them separately from the product. As long as a pricing plan is added to the product and the product itself is published you can start using the PDP immediately. If either of those is still needed the PDP will show as closed for enrollment.
With Product Detail Pages, you can start selling instantly without any setup hassle. Enable yours today and streamline your course sales process!
