This article explains what an upsell is, and how to add an upsell offer in a course lecture or thank you page.
Overview
An upsell is an attempt to entice a customer to make another, usually related, purchase after they purchase one of your products.
You might want to market some of your courses, coaching, digital downloads, or bundle products as supplemental items to one of your other products.
If you would like to offer a supplemental product as an order bump directly on the checkout page, please refer to the Order Bumps Knowledge Base article.
Alternatively, you might want to advertise an upsell in the lecture of an existing course, or on the thank you page after a purchase is already made. In both of these scenarios, when the customer clicks on an upsell offer, they will be brought to a separate checkout page for that product.
NOTE: Upsells in lectures and on pages are only available to Professional or Business Plan subscribers.
Upsell in a lecture
To add an upsell into one of your lectures:
- Go to the curriculum of the lecture where you want to add an upsell. Once there, click into a specific lecture, then click the Add Upsell button:
- Select the Courses tab to add an upsell offer for a course, or select the Coaching tab to add an upsell offer for a coaching product.
- Select a product and Pricing Plan from the dropdown menus to specify which course or coaching product you want to upsell and at which pricing plan.
- In the Block Details section, use the text fields to customize how your upsell looks.
- Click Add Upsell when finished. If you'd like, you can change the product’s thumbnail image in the product’s Information tab.
CAUTION: If you delete the pricing plan for the course you are upselling, the button link in your upsell will no longer work. You will need to select a new Pricing Plan option from the upsell dropdown menu for the upsell to link to.
Upsell in a thank you page
You can upsell your products through the Upsell block if you're using Page Editor 2.0 to edit a product's thank you page. You can add an upsell to the thank you page of a course or coaching product. Be aware that you can only add an Upsell block on the thank you page.
NOTE: If you are using Page Editor 1.0 and want to offer an upsell on the thank you page, please refer to our Knowledge Base here. Upsells on the thank you page is not available for Digital Downloads at this time.
To add an upsell in a thank you page:
- Navigate to the thank you page editor from the product Pages menu.
- Add an Upsell block.
- Select either Coaching or Course to choose which kind of product you want to create the upsell for. Once you select the product type, you can choose the specific product and which pricing plan you want to offer.
- You can change what your upsell block says through the Heading Text, Description Text, and Button Call To Action (CTA) text fields:
- Be sure to click Update in the top right corner to save your changes.
