What Are Claude Skills?
Claude Skills are prebuilt or custom functions that connect Claude (your AI assistant) to specific parts of your Teachable account.
They let Claude do more than chat — enabling it to take action on your behalf. With Claude Skills, you can retrieve student data, analyze course performance, update pricing, and more — all through simple conversation.
For example, instead of navigating your dashboard, you can just ask:
Show me which of my courses have the highest completion rates.
List my newest students and their enrollment dates.
Update the course price for Marketing 101 to $49.

How Claude Skills Work
Think of Claude as a really smart assistant who can reason and write — but by default, it can only talk about things. When you give Claude a Skill, you’re teaching it how to do things. Each Skill gives Claude a specific new capability, such as:
Checking your calendar
Creating or editing student records
Analyzing your Teachable sales or engagement data
Each Skill clearly defines what Claude is allowed to do and how, so you stay in control. Claude only accesses the information you’ve explicitly enabled through your setup.
Common types of Claude Skills include:

Getting Started
Q: How do I download Claude Skills?
You can download Claude Skills directly from this shared repository. Each Skill comes as a file (usually JSON or YAML) that defines its function and permissions.
Q: How do I install a Claude Skill?
Open your Claude app and make sure you’re on a Claude Pro plan or higher.
Go to Settings → Capabilities, then scroll down to the Skills section.
Click Upload Skill, and select the Skill file you’d like to add.
Once uploaded, return to your chats — your new Skill is ready to use!
Q: Do I need to install the MCP server first?
Not necessarily — the MCP server isn’t required to use most Claude Skills. However, if you’d like to explore more advanced capabilities or connect Claude directly to your Teachable data, you can set it up anytime using the instructions in the MCP Quick Start Guide.
Q: Can I share my custom Claude Skills with others?
Yes! You can export your Skill file and share it with other Teachable creators. In future releases, we plan to make it even easier to publish and reuse community-built Skills.

Q: What can I do with Claude Skills?
Claude Skills let you perform actions inside your Teachable account by simply asking Claude. Examples include:

Q: Do I need coding experience to use Claude Skills?
No. Prebuilt Skills require no coding — just install and start using them. For custom Skills, some basic understanding of JSON or API endpoints can help, but it’s optional.
Q: How do I make sure Claude only accesses certain data?
Each Skill defines specific permissions. When you install a Skill, you’ll see a list of exactly what it can access (e.g., course data, student lists). Claude cannot go beyond what you’ve approved.
Q: Can I use Claude Skills with other AI assistants like ChatGPT?
Not yet. The MCP server currently supports Claude only, but multi-model compatibility is being explored for future versions.
Q: How do I know if a Skill is installed correctly?
After importing a Skill, try a test prompt such as:
