Overview

Witness is a powerful tool that enhances user engagement and boosts conversions on your Teachable site by displaying real-time pop-up notifications. These subtle alerts provide information about recent activities, such as course purchases and sign-ups, promoting FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and encouraging visitors to take action. By leveraging social proof and creating a sense of urgency, Witness helps drive more visitors to purchase your courses. This guide will walk you through integrating Witness with your Teachable school.

Setting Up Witness with Teachable

To integrate Witness with your Teachable school, follow these steps:

1. Sign Up for Witness:
   Visit witness.at and create an account. All plans start with a 14-day free trial.
   
   
2. Install Witness on Your Teachable Site:

• Log in to your Witness account.
• Navigate to the “Setup Witness” section.
• Paste your school URL in the “School URL” field and click “Save Changes”
• From the “Teachable School Meta” area, copy the “School Hash” to the clipboard.

3. Add Witness Code to Teachable:

• Log in to your Teachable admin account.
• Go to the Teachable App Hub, by clicking Settings → App Hub
• Click “Install” on the top right of the page.
• Paste the “School Hash” from step 2 into the Account ID field
• Click “Install””

Customizing Notifications

Once Witness is installed on your Teachable site, you can begin customizing notifications:

1. Viewing Notification:

• In your Witness dashboard, navigate to the "Toasts" section.
• This section is split into five areas, “Toast Style”, “Toast Timing”, “Toast Options”, “Event Types” and “Custom Text”.

2. Toast Styles:

• Customize the appearance and position of the toast notification to align with your brand and goals.
• Choose your own colors or pick from one of our presets.

3. Toast Timings:

• The duration of the notification depends on a number of variables.
• “Create Toast Every”, is the main duration where the toast pop-up is generated at the interval indicated in the field. The default is 18 seconds. This means the toast will appear every 18 seconds
• “Remove Toast After” - this is the duration that the toast will appear on the screen.
• “Animate In Toast” and “Animate Out Toast” is the duration of the animation.

4. Toast Options:

• Toast Options allows the setting of how many toasts to show as well as the minimum number of events that are stored before toasts will appear.
• Show or hide products free products available on your school.
• Show or hide the toasts for students who are logged in.
• For Witness Pro plan subscriptions, show or hide the “Verified by Witness” notice as well as disabling the link.
• Also for Witness Pro plan, disable to enable the toast notification on mobile devices.

5. Event Types

• There are five event types which are captured from the Teachable webhooks, they are “New Sale”, “New Enrollment”, “New User”, ”Lecture Completed” and “New Admission”.
• The “New Sale” is the only event turned on by default and the only event available on the Plus plan.
• The other events can be toggled on or off depending on the subscription.
• If events are disabled, no events of that type will be saved to the database even with an active subscription.

6. Custom Text

• The “Custom Text” area allows the school to redefine the wording or phrases used on each notification. It’s also possible to use a different language if desired.

Disable the integration

To uninstall Witness:

1. Navigate to the Settings > App Hub page of your school admin.
2. Scroll down to Installed Apps and click the Witness card.
3. Click the ‘Uninstall” button on the top right corner of the page.
4. To confirm, select an optional reason for uninstalling and click the “uninstall” button.

Please note that uninstalling Witness does not delete your Witness account or cancel any Witness subscription. Visit https://witness.at to cancel your account.
