This article goes over how to make your school visible by changing your school status to online or offline.
Overview
When you first create a school on Teachable, it will be published and online by default. Online schools are accessible to users via your school’s URL.
In order to make your school fully accessible, you need to change the setting to online and publish your content.
Only Primary owners, owners, and custom roles with access to “manage school settings” can change the status of a school.
Take your school online
To change your school status to online:
- Navigate to the Settings tab of your school admin.
- Click on the General tab from the Settings sidebar.
- Under the Website settings, use the School status toggle to update your school visibility to online.
Online status allows new and enrolled students to access all published content in your school.
Take your school offline
- Navigate to the Settings tab of your school admin.
- Click on the General tab from the Settings sidebar.
- Under the Website settings, use the School status toggle to update your school visibility to offline.
Offline schools are not available to visitors on the internet, however, both online and offline schools are accessible to admin users at any time by logging in to your account.

Frequently asked questions
How do I customize the offline status page of my school?
By default, visitors will see “This school isn’t published right now" when trying to access an offline school.
The text on this page can be edited at any time via Site > Custom Text.
Can existing students still access their purchases while my school is offline?
No, students cannot access any purchases while your school status is offline, even if the products are published. For existing students, they can still login to view their billing settings or contact the school owner via the contact form.
To make your content accessible to students, set your school status to online and publish your content.
My school is online—how do I change my homepage?
By default, your school's homepage is set to your Product/Course Directory, which displays all of your published products.
To create and customize your own homepage, go to your Site > Pages tab. You can change your homepage at any time in your school's navigation settings. Learn more about customizing your school's navigation.
