Collecting phone number at checkout

This article outlines collecting student phone numbers during checkout, including how to access and export that data.

Overview

  • Creators can enable collecting phone numbers from students either as an optional or required field at checkout

  • Saved phone numbers can be viewed in the student profile, exported via CSV and are included in relevant webhook events

  • Students can update their phone numbers from within their profile menu


Enable phone number collection

To enable this feature:

  1. Navigate to the Settings > General area of your school admin.

  2. Under the Website tab, scroll down to Checkout Settings

  3. Toggle ON "Collect customer phone number at checkout", and choose if the information will be Required or Optional


Checkout experience

When enabled, the checkout page will have a new field for collecting a phone number. Students who provide a phone number will also need to consent to their phone number being used for marketing purposes.

Accessing phone number data

Saved phone numbers are available in the following locations:

  • The student Information tab in the Users menu, as shown below

  • The phone number column in the Users CSV export

  • Any webhook event that includes a user data array

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I customize the language shown to my students relating to the phone number experience?

Yes, all strings relating to phone numbers are available for editing in the Site > Language and text menu, under Checkout and Student Profile.

Can I collect phone numbers on my school sign up page instead of checkout?

This option isn't currently available on the school sign up page, but students can add a phone number directly to their student profile menu.

I've enabled this setting, why don't I see the change reflected on my checkout page?

Your school may have a legacy version of our checkout experience. Please contact support if you'd like more information about switching to the new checkout experience.
