Understanding usage fees

Everything you need to know about student limits and fees

Most Teachable schools never see usage fees — about 90% of creators aren't impacted at all. If you received an email about upcoming changes, this article explains what's changing and what (if anything) you need to do.

For schools that are over their plan's limits

A per-student usage fee will apply automatically at your next billing renewal if your school exceeds its plan's active or imported student limits.

What counts toward your limits?

  • Active students: Students currently enrolled in at least one product in your school

  • Imported students: Students added outside Teachable's checkout — such as through a manual import, the API, or a third-party tool — within the last 12 months

  • Published products: The total number of published products in your school.

  • Video storage: Total video storage used across your school.

NOTE: Imported students also includes the use of the Bulk Actions feature to manually import existing users to a new product. To learn more about this feature, click here.

How to reduce or eliminate fees

  • Upgrade your plan — higher tiers include more active and imported student capacity

  • Move to Teachable checkout — students who enroll through Teachable's native checkout don't count toward your imported student limit

  • Contact us — if you have high usage, our team can discuss a custom plan at [email protected]
